False Security? Not From Where I Sit
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009So when I came home and found our VCR and TV gone, a gaping whole in the entertainment center, I thought about my husband’s threats. He would get so mad when he would call the kids and they wouldn’t answer as they were mesmerized by whatever was on the TV, he would often threaten to throw the thing in the trash.
I looked at where the VCR and TV used to be. I asked the kids, “Did Daddy get mad at you this morning?” After assuring me that he did not, I pointed out that the TV and VCR were missing. It then began to dawn on all of us that our house had been broken into. These items were stolen, and we called the police – and later, the insurance company. The next call was to a home security company so that this wouldn’t happen again. We had a system installed and the we didn’t even know that it would provide us with a little button that would alert the police or ambulance if we had an issue without a phone call. I have been a fan of commercial security systems ever since.
And you don’t even have to memorize codes for your security panel. Now they have a convenient little tag that you just flash by the sensor and it turns your system on or off. It’s called Safepass. Talk about great for people like me who can’t remember how old I am much less a code number. If your alarm ever goes off by accident, you would be surprised how it shakes you up so this little device is great. So is having the peace of mind that you are both deterring would be burglars, as well as having a system that would go off and automatically alert the police if someone does break in. Think of the peace of mind you could have when on vacation. I do, and as a result, I enjoy my vacations very much, thank you.
We have had our system now for almost ten years. Yes, I upgraded twice in the meantime, but I love having this built in security that I have someone watching over me and ready if I or someone in my family needs help.
Some people say it is just false security. I disagree. Did you know that just by having a system at your house keeps the burglars away? Yes, they don’t want to get caught and a security system is not what they want to see. That’s good enough for me.
And the manual fire and emergency button are reassuring to have in the event you have a fire or medical emergency. After your home is invaded and your items stolen, you tend to have a different opinion about a security system. To me, it became a necessity so that I could feel safe when I came back home, knowing that some stranger hadn’t invaded my house while I was gone and letting me know if someone was attempting to when we are home.
The proof for me is that we haven’t been broken into again.
